Anti-U.S. Parties Gain in Pakistan

Religious zealots look to be winning substantially more of Pakistan’s equivalent of Congress. Read about it on NSMBC.com.

Obviously this is bad news. President Gen. Pervez Musharraf will have his work cut out for him to keep that country moving in the right direction.

There are two things to think about in this. First, for all of the monotony of the two-party system, the U.S. is a model of stability compared to countries with a Medusa’s head of squabbling factions. Second, it’s counties like Pakistan, Iran, Syria, et al, that the Founding Fathers foresaw when mandating seperation of church and state. I for one am glad they had the wisdom to do so.
