According to CNN, when asked if they approved of how Congress is handling its job, 62 percent of Americans said they did not, while just 36 percent said they did.
Why then, as of 10 PM Central time, has every one of the incumbent Democrats been re-elected?
Various reasons, mainly Iraq. Bush’s handling of domestic security, Mark Foley’s playing the gay pedophiliac in the halls of Congress, and a continuing trend of the middle class to feel less well off are all working against the Pubs.
It’s a protest vote, I think, and the Dems aren’t winning because of who they are – it’s all about who they aren’t. They aren’t Bush, Cheney, or Rumsfeld. Chet Edwards, the guy in my district, is no FDR or JFK but he won handily for his 7th, 8th, or 9th term.
When in doubt people are voting against Bush and his policies and justifiably so. I just wish that people actually wanted change as much as they say they do.
