The Houston Chronicle says that “no single authority knows how many registered sex offenders are high school students”.
At least some of them are re-offending, of course, as discussed last month. Is the fact that these creeps aren’t on peoples’ radars screen due to government incompetence, the default, or because of juvenile shielding?
Shari Julian, a criminal justice professor and expert on sex crimes at the University of Texas-Arlington says, “Once you are a registered sex offender, the public’s right to know trumps the rights of the juvenile.”
Here, here. I still hope the teacher in Austin sues the school district. That should be a slam dunk win and one that would lead to postive change.
